Yes, we admit it. We’re chocoholics – just like millions of other people, probably including you.

Chocolate is a comfort food, it raises endorphins, and just makes us feel better.

But like most things for people who need to go gluten-free, all chocolate is not equal. Some are safer than others. Here is a list of chocolate products, for all of you who agree that chocolate is a basic food group that is necessarily for daily consumption!

 

Hershey products have been around for ages and while they’re maybe not the most designer chocolate company around, they are certainly cost-friendly and delicious, which is probably why they’ve been around for so long. Look at some of their gluten-free products: Hershey’s Cocoas, Health Bars, Hershey’s Kisses, Nuggets, Milk Duds, Mounds, Payday, York Peppermint Patties, Rolo Carmel, Skor, and Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups (only the regular, not the seasonal ones), and of course their classic Hershey’s chocolate bar! Hershey’s Chips, including Butterscotch, Cinnamon, Milk Chocolate, Semi-sweet, white, dark, sugar free and Reese’s peanut butter baking chips are all safe.

Dove Chocolates are usually safe, but always check the labels in case they used a factory with a cross-contamination risk, which Dove reports.

Toblerone may not label its products as gluten free, but they are.

Ghirardelli products are usually gluten-free, except for its Luxe Milk Crisp products.

While Nestle makes some gluten-free products, the only chocolate bar that is safe is its Milk Chocolate bar.

Lindt chocolates may be popular, but many have trace amounts of barley malt. The white chocolates are the safer choices for people who need to avoid gluten.

Godiva has warned that its chocolates could contain gluten so that a person with a gluten allergy should not consume any of their products.
